Mineralogy and Petrology

Definitions of mineral and rock; methods of study; physical properties for megascopic study; Common rock-forming minerals (feldspar, quartz, olivine, augite, hornblende, mica, calcite); Ore-forming minerals (pyrite, hematite, magnetite, galena, graphite, chromite, bauxite); Classification, structures, textures and forms of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks

UNIT 03

Structural Geology

Strike, dip and outcrop; Folds and faults: parts, types, mechanism; Joints and unconformities; Importance of geological structures in civil engineering

UNIT 04

Ground Water, Earthquakes, Landslides and Geophysics
